Heron's Nest Sanctuary is a one-room bed and breakfast in Mont Carmel, about twenty minutes from Summerside. Brian and Beverly Cooper welcome guests into their home, where the room, breakfast and gardens are all part of the stay.
Mont Carmel sits in PEI's Évangéline Region on the western side of the Island. You can spend a day in Summerside, visit communities along the North Cape Coastal Drive, or stay close to the coast. When you return, there is just one guest room at Heron's Nest.

A private room in a shared home
The guest room has a double bed, storage space, room-darkening shades and a lock on the door. It sleeps up to two people. A dedicated workspace is beside the room, and the home has Wi-Fi and central air conditioning.
The bathroom is shared with Brian and Beverly, as are the kitchen and common areas. Some travellers want a whole home to themselves; others like staying with their hosts and sharing the common spaces. The room is private, but the home is shared.
The home is single level with step-free access, although there are stairs to the basement. Free parking, a washer and dryer, books and access to the full kitchen are among the listed amenities. If a particular accessibility feature matters to you, ask Brian and Beverly about it before booking.
Breakfast and time outside
Breakfast is included with every stay and is served from 7:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. The Breakfast page lists the menu, with choices ranging from eggs and toast to waffles, a vegetarian omelette and a fruit bowl. If you have an early start or a question about the menu, you can contact your hosts before you book.
Outside, Brian and Beverly have spent seven and a half years shaping the grounds. Guests can walk through twenty curated gardens and see how plants, stonework and Brian's driftwood art fit together. There are also two decks, an outdoor dining area, a barbecue, a fire pit, bikes and sun loungers. The beach is within walking distance. You can make a garden walk part of the day without driving anywhere.
What is nearby?
Summerside is about twenty minutes away, so you can visit the city without staying in its centre. Mont Carmel also puts you in the Évangéline Region, where Tourism PEI points visitors toward the Bottle Houses in Cap-Egmont, the Notre-Dame-du-Mont-Carmel Church and Acadian culture in the surrounding communities. Check opening hours for individual attractions before making a day of it.
Western PEI has golf courses, beaches and coastal drives to explore. The warm southern shore is also popular with experienced kiteboarders. You can use Heron's Nest as a base for those outings, or keep a day open for the gardens and the nearby shore.
